The Haddam Little League participates each year in the annual baseball and
softball All-Star tournament that is part of Little League International. Teams
in the All-Star tournament play competitive games during the month of July
starting at the district level. The Major League baseball team plays in hopes to
advance all the way to the Little League World Series held in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania.
Since the All-Star teams are decided by age, i.e.; 9-10 years old (minors),
11-12 (majors) and 13-15 (junior) All-Star teams can only be made up of “league
age” players of that age. A player must play at least 1/2 of his/her regular
season games in order
to be eligible to play All-Stars.
Player’s for the Major League and Junior League teams are selected by the
player’s of the Major and Junior league teams at the end of the regular season.
According to Little League International Rules, a maximum of thirteen players
are allowed on the All-Star team roster so the top 13 vote gets are eligible.
Playing on an All-Star team is considered to be an honor and all selected
players are expected to be available for all practices and games. Rules for
All-Star games are different that for the regular season. There is a minimum
play requirement for all players on a team but that play requirement is not the
same as during the regular season so players are not guaranteed to play in the
entire game.
Games played early in the tournament are played at sites through the district
while state sectional and state championship games are played throughout the
state.
Little League International Rules require that each team provide an original
copy of each player’s birth certificate and also require proof of residency in
the town of Haddam.
If enough 11 year old players are available who have not been selected to the
Major League All-Star team, an 11 year old team may be assembled to play
tournament games.
There is no additional fee to play on an All-Star team.
