Kyle

Little League places ban on composite baseball bats
The Little League International Board of Directors Executive Committee, which operates all divisions of Little League Baseball, including the Little League World Series, has issued an immediate and complete moratorium on the use of composite bats.

Composite bats, which sell for upwards of $300, first appeared in amateur baseball in the early 2000s.  Made of not only aluminum, but also wrapped in woven graphite, they generate far more power and allow for faster bat speeds via better swing weight management.  Little League decided that the technology was beginning to put youth at risk.  When struck well, baseballs will fly off of composite bats at much higher rates of speed than regular old aluminum models.

Because the Haddam Little League is part of Little League International we must adhere to all rules passed down.  It is reccommended that before you purchase a bat for your child you should check the Little League International website to obtain a revised "Approved Bat" list.    Please do not hestitate to speak with your child's coach, a league umpire or a board member for more information.

Volunteers are always welcome
Little League Baseball and Softball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. The Haddam Little League relies on a devoted legion of adult and youth volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. We welcome responsible and enthusiastic individuals to help support league activities.

The best volunteers are those who are able to bring added enjoyment to the game simply be being themselves. What you see during Little League games is a mere fraction of what you can do as a volunteer. You can volunteer to help in virtually any aspect of Little League Baseball or Softball.   From operating the snack stand to field maintenance to coaching, we are always looking for volunteers.

Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! Volunteers are parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, retirees, former Little Leaguers, friends, neighbors, students and more.   Volunteering can be used toward Community Service credit needed for all Region 17 High School students.

Do you know what to do when a thunder storm approaches?
Lightning is one of the most underrated killers, causing more fatalities annually than all other natural disasters except flooding.  Florida is the top state for lightning strikes, but all states share the risk.  Click here for more information.
